The Rhubarb Candle Company started 10 years ago as a cottage industry. They ran out of space at home and moved to these premises four years ago. The first place that Jenny & Andrew took their son on holiday was to Rhubarb Hill, Holywell Bay near Newquay. From then on ’rhubarb’ represented everything pleasant to him and them, hence the name.
The shop is airy, tasteful and, as you would expect, filled with gorgeous smells. Everything is made on the premises; sometimes at weekends you can watch the products being made. Everything is soy based. Their son is asthmatic, and they have learned that soy is better for this condition than ordinary candles which are paraffin based. As well as candles they make reed diffusers, wax melts, soaps, body butters and perfumes. They are an eco-company, everything is vegan, cruelty free and they are pretty much plastic free. The only plastic is in the lids of their perfume containers, which are refillable. All other packaging is made from potato starch.
A visit to this shop is pure pleasure, a delight to all the senses. The shop is filled with beautiful things, mugs, pottery and gift. It is decorated to suit the season – at the moment Jenny has a display of pumpkins and the colour of autumn. Andrew and Jenny will give you a warm welcome; they clearly love what they do and are knowledgeable about their products. If you cannot get to the shop, they sell a range of products on-line and this includes gift boxes – useful to know with Christmas fast approaching.
